Premier League in Focus

The Curse of The Champions League has struck Paris St Germain and Real Madrid. Which of the Premier League contenders will it strike?

Research is naturally muted early season as form lines are, well, non existent.

So, if playing today, remember that the likes of Aston Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City and any other I have missed, may go the way of the European powerhouses PSG and Real Madrid. The importance of the Champions League has the SPECIAL ONE losing….

Newcastle v Bournemouth

2.20 / 3.88 / 3.29

Newcastle should have a 100% winning record, but for a late penalty conceded at home against Liverpool. They have netted 2 goals in each of their opening two matches under their new manager, with Elanga scoring in both appearances. Bournemouth saw both teams score in their defeat to Man City and a 1–1 draw with Everton, a match where they actually took the lead. Although the sample size is small, Newcastle’s strong performance against Liverpool suggests they should be favored at home, a view supported by the market. The key pattern to watch is whether Newcastle can maintain their 2-goal habit against a Bournemouth side that both scores and concedes.

Brentford v Sunderland

1.68 / 4.17 / 5.59

Brentford enter this fixture with strong backing, while Sunderland have established themselves as a tradeable side, securing an equalizer against Ipswich before eventually losing, and grinding out a 1–0 win over Fulham in a classic “lay the draw” script. However, Sunderland are yet to find that elusive second goal. For the Bees, Schade could prove to be the ultimate difference-maker with his high skill level and clinical finishing.

Brighton v Leeds

1.96 / 3.72 / 4.22

Brighton’s 4–0 win over Aston Villa was bizarre, and their 4–3 thriller against Chelsea showcased a wildly open, “Keeganesque” style. Scoring 7 goals in 2 matches demands respect and naturally opens the door for early action. Leeds have played it much tighter with a 1–0 away win and a 1–1 draw against Brentford, but they may lack the firepower to push for a second goal if Brighton’s high-scoring machine runs riot.

Fulham v Crystal Palace

2.39 / 3.51 / 3.21

This is a classic London derby, meaning the wisest approach is to trade reactively if at all. Both sides have struggled out of the gate with two defeats apiece from two matches, and Fulham were involved in a messy 2–3 scoreline in their previous London derby. Pre-match angles look unappealing due to poor form and the unpredictable nature of derby day.

Manchester City v Coventry

1.19 / 8.35 / 17.00

Manchester City look like a trader’s dream right now, coming off a comeback win against Bournemouth followed by a Haaland masterclass and hat-trick against Crystal Palace. Coventry are yet to score and their defense looked championship-standard against Arsenal, making a comfortable 3–0 or 3–1 style victory for City highly probable. While City have an upcoming Champions League trip away to Porto, their depth makes an upset unlikely even if Frank Lampard sniffs an opportunity.

Nottingham v Tottenham

2.57 / 3.52 / 2.92

The market’s message here is loud and clear: stay away. Nottingham Forest sit at loss-draw for the season, while Tottenham have leaked 5 goals without reply and seen Richarlison depart for Turkey. With zero momentum on either side, pre-match metrics offer no reliable edge.

Hull v Aston Villa

4.42 / 3.88 / 1.88

Aston Villa face a tricky turnaround with an away trip to Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday, a spot that mirrors their sluggish, scoreless start to European weeks last season. Hull have quietly put together two consecutive wins to nil and will fancy their chances against a Villa side suffering from early-season European hangover symptoms.
