The BIG 5 leagues are with us and with them comes reliability ( unless you’re managed by Graham ‘Harry’ Potter), readability and liquidity. These will be my main researched leagues.
I cannot offer you any form angles at this stage of the season but here are today’s efforts.
ENGLAND: Premier League
12:30 Manchester City v Tottenham – 1.42 Manchester City
• Manchester City
• 0-4 win v Wolves saw a 0-2 lead by halftime in a match orchestrated by Reijnders.
• Tottenham
• new manager coaxed the best out of Richarlison in a goal of the season special as part of a 3-0 win v Burnley. This follows a 2-2 v PSG but how much we can trust this as 'form' I don't know.
• No point looking at head to heads given the new manager.
Angles: the market is awfully confident in a Man City facing an unknown quantity - a new manager at Spurs and a Richarlison who seems the kind of player thriving off confidence. 1.42 is far too short at the off. 5 goals in 2 matches for Tottenham, the yardstick 2 goals v PSG in the Super Cup.
NEUTRAL : No.
15:00 Bournemouth v Wolves – 1.80 Bournemouth
• Bournemouth
• loss. Goal before halftime. Fought back after being 2-0 down to Liverpool.Semenyo scored 2 goals and could be a real handful with home advantage.
• Wolves
• 0-2 down by halftime in a 0-4 defeat to Man City
Angles: little for these 2 to grumble about in defeats to Liverpool away ( Bournemouth) and Man City at home ( Wolves). This is more the level for these 2 to collect points. Semenyo the attacking force for the home side. Strand Larsen may score if given the set piece ammunition.
NEUTRAL :
15:00 Brentford v Aston Villa – 2.15 Aston Villa
• Brentford
• is this new Brentford manager out of his depth or is one match not enough to condemn him?
• 3-1 loss to Nottm Forest saw Forest maintain defensive strength.
• Aston Villa
• a 0-0 at home to Newcastle saw Aston Villa hold on late on after a red card.
Angles: Aston Villa, under Emery, eyed 2 goals away from home last season and the fact they only drew their opener could help us see this today. Is Brentford's new manager going to be outdone tactically by the wiley old Dick Emery? Despite the 2.15 quote, I would cautiously nod towards Aston Villa and play the 'new manager out of his depth' angle? Or is this set piece coach going to weave his magic?
NEUTRAL :
15:00 Burnley v Sunderland – 2.35 Burnley
• Burnley
• Expected little, received nothing in a 3-0 defeat away at Tottenham, with Richarlison the difference really.
• Sunderland
• 3-0 home win v West Ham was a surprise. I expected a seasoned Hammers to remind the Black Cats that the move up is a big one. All 3 goals came 2nd half.
Angles: This is a match where I'd expect both teams to have chalked in '3 pointer'. Of a similar standing, Sunderland's win impressed but little gained from Burnley away to a red hot Richarlison. I would lay any draw and potentially any 2nd half draw if 0-0 in the hope that these 2 target 3 points in what could be one of their easier assignments this season.
NEUTRAL : lay any late draw
17:30 Arsenal v Leeds – 1.27 Arsenal
• Arsenal
• typical Arsenal away at Man Utd. In the previous 2 head to heads there it was either 0-1 or 1-1. Well 0-1 on this occasion. 7 goalkeeper saves reminds us they were the best defensive unit last season.
• Leeds
• A 1-0 win care of a 2nd half penalty v Everton is a win. No gauge as to today's result, due deference to the Toffees.
Angles: Bring yer shin pads? This is a must win for Arsenal to extend to a 2 match winning run. They must beat the newly promoted sides. Leeds set up is likely to mirror the 'keep it tight and nick a pen' template . If Leeds do score, I would not expect a 2nd consecutive goal v the meanest defence in the EPL.
