Hello, it’s another busy day on the Coupon, with the welcome introduction of the German Bundesliga and our favourite goalscorer Harry Kane.
Back to the Premier League and there were plenty of questions to answer of recent surprise results. Hull’s impressive win against Man Utd caught my eye. Chelsea’s 3 goals away at Fulham hinted at a more solid attack this season for the Blues? And Man City conceding but winning is a good sign of a very trustworthy trading side!
Let’s have a look at today’s matches.

Match Analysis Cards
Match Card 1: Liverpool v Nottingham Forest
- Match: Liverpool v Nottingham Forest
- Venue: Anfield
- Time: 12:30
- Probability: Home Win: 65.4% | Draw: 20.9% | Away Win: 13.7%
- Tactical Breakdown:
- Liverpool: Entering a new era under manager Andoni Iraola, this represents Liverpool’s first home fixture at Anfield. Their Premier League opener ended in a chaotic 2-2 away draw at Newcastle, in which they had to claw their way back from behind twice and relied on a last-gasp penalty to secure a point. While the offensive fighting spirit was on display, the match exposed the same unresolved defensive vulnerabilities and goal-conceding patterns that hampered their campaign last season.
- Nottingham Forest: Forest travel to Anfield on the heels of a 1-0 home defeat against Leeds United in their Premier League opener. They struggled to generate high-quality chances in front of goal and ultimately paid the price when they conceded in the 88th minute.
- Trading Angle: A cautious market, 1.53 is bigger than I expected and factors in new manager syndrome for the Pool. Forest may have trouble infront of goal. Note that if they score first , will they really score 2 consecutive goals? Liverpool fought from behind twice but still Liverpool have not solved that conceding goals pattern of last season.
Match Card 2: Bournemouth v Everton
- Match: Bournemouth v Everton
- Venue: Vitality Stadium
- Time: 15:00
- Probability: Home Win: 46.7% | Draw: 27.4% | Away Win: 27.4%
- Tactical Breakdown:
- Bournemouth: Adapting to structural adjustments following a managerial transition, Bournemouth suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in their opening Premier League match. They showed impressive resilience, scoring first to lead before halftime, and held their shape exceptionally well before conceding their first goal of the match in the 84th minute. This indicates a strong, well-drilled defensive bent.
- Everton: David Moyes' side had a highly efficient opening weekend, securing a 2-0 home victory against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The goals were spaced out on either side of the interval (including a decisive strike in the 53rd minute), landing Everton their first clean sheet of the campaign. Moyes’ defensive structure was bolstered by a rejuvenated midfield featuring academy graduate Harrison Armstrong and summer signing Hayden Hackney.
- Trading Angle: Tough of course to read after one match. Single pattern both, a goal before halftime
Match Card 3: Coventry City v Hull City
- Match: Coventry City v Hull City
- Venue: Coventry Building Society Arena
- Time: 15:00
- Probability: Home Win: 52.4% | Draw: 27.8% | Away Win: 19.8%
- Tactical Breakdown:
- Coventry: Returning to the top flight for the first time in 25 years, manager Frank Lampard takes charge of Coventry's first home game at the CBS Arena. Coventry's Premier League campaign began with a tough, predictable 3-0 away defeat to reigning champions Arsenal. However, the Sky Blues found their attacking rhythm midweek, defeating Plymouth Argyle 4-2 in the Carabao Cup first round.
- Hull: Promoted via the play-offs under Sergej Jakirovi?, Hull City registered the first major upset of the Premier League season by defeating Manchester United 2-0 at home. They capitalized on defensive errors to net two first-half goals from Semi Ajayi and debutant Nobel Mendy. Hull sustained their momentum midweek by defeating Stoke City on penalties in the Carabao Cup first round.
- Trading Angle: A chance given by the market to Coventry in a match where we could see both teams score. A ??? surrounds that Hull form. Reliable or lucky to catch the Red with their pants down?
Match Card 4: Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United
- Match: Tottenham v Newcastle
- Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
- Time: 17:30
- Probability: Home Win: 42.9% | Draw: 27.0% | Away Win: 30.1%
- Tactical Breakdown:
- Tottenham: Roberto De Zerbi’s side suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Brentford in a London derby to open their Premier League season. Despite high-profile summer transfers such as the arrivals of Sávio and Omar Marmoush, the performance was a bruising reminder of last season's vulnerabilities, where Spurs narrowly escaped relegation on the final day.
- Newcastle: Newcastle were seconds away from starting their campaign with an impressive 2-1 victory over Liverpool, only to concede a 90+ minute penalty that forced them to settle for a 2-2 draw at St James' Park.
- Trading Angle: an unclear market giving both teams a chance. New manager Newcastle, New(ish) manager Tottenham. Unclear and hard to anticipate given that emphatic loss for Tottenham seasonal bow. I personally give a slight nod to the Geordies but bow to the inplay stats and momentum
